An expansion (of sorts)

This blog has been up since June 2008. I initially started it as an extension of my history classroom and a place to engage historians and other students of history in a discussion of the American Civil War, but also general U.S. History.

I have not been active on this blog for quite sometime, mostly because I have not been teaching history. I returned to my journalism and broadcasting roots and have been teaching audio video production and mass media classes for the last two years.

I recently finished my master’s degree in New Media Journalism and thought it might be good if I showcased my experience in web publishing by bringing the site back online and linking it to two other blog projects I have. Yes, this means I will be publishing back here on occasion.

My Northeast Texas news site, “Fast Draw Media”

One of the two other sites, Fast Draw Media, was the major part of publishing for my master’s degree over the last year. It includes publishing projects that were class assignments and is a general news site focusing on news of interest from the Northeast Texas region where I live. I also published my capstone project that served as the basis of my master’s thesis on this site. That site will continue to be a general news site serving the region where I live.

My political commentary site, “Issues as I See Them”

A new effort from is a site that will include political commentary. While I have offered, and will continue to do so, commentary on this site and the Fast Draw Media site, direct political commentary will be offered on the new site. The site was started in February 2011, but up to this point, I have not been active in publishing, but that is set to change.

Managing three sites will be challenging, but I think I can do it. Robert Moore does it quite capably and has more than three sites he actively publishes to.

In addition to the links in this story, you can link to the sites in the “Other Blogs” menu under the “About” tab at the top of the page.
